Again I must apologize for being lax on keeping up with our blog. I plan to add to the previous days at some point- but no promises.
This was a day of heat, breakdowns and not many "things to do", however we did have a bit of fun along the way.
First stop was at an uncrossable covered bridge outside of Myrtle Point on Hwy 42. The day was warming up rapidly, already just shirt weather outside.

Several of the other "groups in travel" also stopped at Ken's.
Stan had a lesson in marijuana upon viewing of this sign next to Ken's. He thought it was a plumbing shop, or was he just fooling us?
Most of the drive for the day was through small towns, various kinds of trees and terrain and very much HEAT.

Meanwhile, we started smelling a strange odor in the cockpit, then soon found water spraying everywhere. The engine temperature had not risen, but there definitely was a problem. Philip quickly pulled to a wider space on the other side of the road and turned off the engine. We tried unsuccessfully to call AAA, but finally were able to get through. It was about 100 degrees out, so we did our best to keep cool. Once the engine cooled enough, Philip was able to ascertain that the hose from the radiator water reservoir to the engine was broken.
Finally he got through to AAA and it took at least 30 minutes to place our emergency call. We are not happy with their new system of a call going to some "center", in who knows where, who can't figure out where you are, then eventually transfers you over to the state you are in, then they have to validate your membership with your own state, then they might get you a tow truck. Fortunately we were given a high priority. Thankfully Barry and Gen'e, and Nigel and Janet came along to provide technical and emotional support and a large umbrella. Not one person on the highway stopped to provide any assistance.
Thanks for stopping |
It took about 30 minutes more for the tow truck to arrive from Medford, OR. The driver was very efficient and friendly.

We arrived at Emmett's Auto Repair in Klamath Falls as they were closing. Stan, Jen, Grant and Helen arrived shortly there after.
Unloading the Aero at Emmetts |
Grant returned with the tow truck driver to pick up his Aero and tow it to Medford to be trucked back to LA. He picked up a hire car and returned to the Running Y Resort in Klamath Falls in time for bed.
Stan piled all our belongings in addition to some of Grant and Helen's, as well as their own items into his car, and we had a taxi take us to the hotel, very tired and very hot.
We enjoyed many G&T's before a well deserved dinner. Stan with all the goods |

The final event of the day was that Fiona had lost her Morgan keys. Her car was searched by many to no avail. Fortunately, they were found during the night, so that disaster was averted.
And our Morgan is now fixed, including a new battery which apparently didn't much like a hot shower.
